A group class in collaboration with Four Peaks Irish Arts open to anyone interested in learning traditional Irish tunes.

All instruments and abilities. Learn tunes at a comfortable, doable pace! Learn by ear. Learn the style. Meet other players, and learn about Irish sessions.

This class is a great opportunity to get back into playing an instrument. And if you’ve ever said “I’ve tried to learn some tunes, but I feel like a fish out of water at a session”, I can show you how to best learn tunes and give you the resources and skills you need.

Tunes are a great way to begin or improve your ability to learn by ear! A skill that allows you to learn music faster, retain it longer, learn style and musicality, and improves confidence in your playing.

I teach tunes by playing a bar or phrase at a time, explaining the patterns and pitches, and style, then invite the class to play along. I’m teaching primarily the tune melody with some attention to accompaniment. We’ll work each section of a tune at a slow pace, and learn a tune a class. Recordings provided for listening and for practicing. Players must be proficient on their instruments and familiar with one octave scales in G, D, A, E, C, and F.
